School Goals

The Anvil City Science Academy Academic Policy Committee has adopted the following mission statement:
Through a cooperative network of parents, teachers, and community members, Anvil City Science Academy will provide a safe nurturing, family oriented, multi-age learning environment supporting a highly rigorous academic program for higher education preparation with high standards of responsible citizenship. Current technology will be incorporated in all aspects of the students' education. Anvil City Science Academy will promote academic excellence, character development, and educational enthusiasm resulting in responsible, productive citizens.


Goals


*Anvil City Science Academy will ensure a safe and caring learning environment, free of violence, abuse, and harassment.
*Anvil City Science Academy will aggressively pursue the resources necessary to promote learning for all enrolled students.
* Anvil City Science Academy will provide the hardware, software, and instruction for all students to learn and work with

     the most powerful information, communication, and computer construction tools available.
* Anvil City Science Academy students will demonstrate academic excellence in national assessment tests in literacy,

     mathematics, science, and social studies.
*Anvil City Science Academy will enforce high standards of excellence and expectations of students and staff regarding

     attendance, discipline, academic achievement, and professional performance.

     
Educational Partnerships    
  * Continue working with Dr. Martin Jeffries of the Geophysical Institute of UAF on the ALISON Project.
  * Work with the US Department of Fish and Wildlife on a Schoolyard Habitat Project.
 

* Work with the Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation on restoration of salmon habitat at

    Anvil Creek and Moonlight Springs.

  * Work with UAF's Wildlife Day By Day Program.  
  * Participate in the Artists in Schools Program with Alaska State Council on the Arts.
   
         
Community Outreach    
  * Interview community elders in preparation for the Artists in Schools play production.
   * Produce and submit radio spots / PSA's for KNOM.
  * Write and submit newspaper articles to the Nome Nugget.
 

* The ACTION (Active Community Teenagers Involved in Outreach for Nome) will be engaged in activities to

   improve Nome.

   
 Technology Integration    
  * Utilize technology in all subject areas.
  * Develop Podcasts.    
  * Develop iMovies .
